For my 10th birthday, my parents brought me to Las Vegas to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Michael Jackson ONE” and “Beatles LOVE.” They were so cool, creative, and colorful! Another Cirque show, “Corteo,” is coming to Phoenix. Since I love these shows, I got the chance to chat with one of the amazing acrobats: Fabio Luis Santos.
Fabio says that every Cirque experience brings a spectacular type of magic. Originally from Brazil, Fabio started doing gymnastics at age 9. He told me getting serious about gymnastics takes a lot of time, effort, and training.
Thanks to his awesome talent, Fabio joined the Cirque family and became part of their shows. Now, in “Corteo,” he’s a super cool acrobat who swings in mid-air from bar to bar.
“Corteo” is about a dreamer clown who travels to visit his friends. According to Fabio, the family-friendly show brings joy and happiness to the audience.
Fabio, along with other performers, says acrobatics can be a little scary, but it’s very fun. He trains a lot and eats healthy meals to stay fit, such as eggs, smoked salmon, and rice, beans, and meat- some of his favorites from growing up in Brazil.
“Corteo” tours all over the world and Fabio says being a Cirque star is an adventure. He loves visiting Mexico, Japan, and California.
When Fabio is not on tour, he goes back to Brazil to hang out with his 9-year-old son, Theo. Theo is Fabio’s everything, and when he’s on tour, he misses his son very much. When they’re together, they enjoy skateboarding, surfing, and his son even does hip hop, so the dad-son duo dance together.
You can see “Corteo” in Phoenix from September 13 to 17 at Footprint Center, 201 E. Jefferson St., in Phoenix. For more information, visit footprintcenter.com/events/cirque-du-soleil-corteo.
